The strawberry... also known as fraise, fragola, fresa, jagoda belongs to the rose family, Rosacae. The delicious red flesh is just an apparent fruit, while the small yellow seeds on the surface are the actual fruits of the strawberry.
useful information
Did you know that, botanically speaking, strawberries are not berries at all, but rather collective nuts? That they carry an average of around 200 seeds per fruit? Or that they help you get whiter teeth thanks to the enzyme bromelain? With strawberries, not only the fruits but also the leaves can be processed. They are said to have a blood-purifying and diuretic effect. Dried, these can be used as a soothing tea to support healing of gastrointestinal diseases or pain in the neck and throat area. As a facial toner, strawberry leaf tea is said to have an additional skin-clarifying effect and thus help with impure skin and acne.
sorts
With over 1,000 strawberry varieties worldwide, it's definitely a matter of taste which one you like best. A basic distinction is made between early, medium, late-ripening and ever-bearing varieties. Strawberries are perennial, which means they are hardy and can easily survive the climate in our latitudes. Basically, all varieties can be optimally planted in SISSI STRAWBERRY on the balcony, terrace or in the garden.
Planting depth
When planting or moving strawberry plants, it is important to ensure that they are not planted too shallowly or too deeply into the soil. The rootstock is the heart of the plant and must under no circumstances be covered with soil for the further growth of the leaves, flowers and fruits.
storage
It is best to store freshly picked strawberries unwashed and as dry as possible in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator - preferably in a box or on a kitchen towel.
Further processing
Strawberries, especially when they are fresh, can be prepared and preserved in a variety of ways. From jams, compotes, fruit salads to strawberry desserts and fruit cakes, they prove to be all-rounders in the kitchen. Since the aroma goes well with other fruits such as bananas, raspberries and blackberries, you can also easily conjure up a delicious smoothie. If you like it a little stronger, you can of course also use the strawberries to make a fruity punch.
