They are characteristic ingredients for dishes and drinks in Greece, Italy, Spain, southern France, Turkey and also in Tunisia and Morocco. Mediterranean herbs from the Mediterranean have become an integral part of our kitchen and are now available dried everywhere. For fresh enjoyment, you can also easily plant them yourself in your garden, on the balcony or on the terrace. Important: the soil should be permeable and rather sandy when growing these varieties.

Varieties included

Marjoram is suitable for growing at the window as well as outdoors and is perfect as a seasoning for all meat dishes, soups and vegetarian spreads. After a few days, this herb germinates and can be harvested continuously. For drying, it is best to harvest completely shortly before flowering in August.

The typical pizza seasoning, oregano, can be grown and harvested both indoors and outdoors. The young shoots can be used fresh or dried to season a wide variety of tomato dishes, sauces or omelettes. The aroma is most intense during the flowering period, so this period is also ideal for harvesting.

The flat-growing thyme is a true jack-of-all-trades. In terms of taste, this herb goes well with many different dishes: from meat and Mediterranean summer vegetables to soothing teas and sweet desserts in combination with honey. Even in colder regions, thyme can easily survive the winter with the appropriate frost protection.
